Big night with Lil Wayne
Tuesday, March 24, 2009
Lil Wayne’s “I Am Music 2009 World Tour” made its way to FedExForum on Sunday, March 22 for one of the biggest nights in music in Memphis this year.
Lil Wayne headlined the show, but with T-Pain, Gym Class Heroes and Keri Hilson also on the docket, there was enough musical talent at FedExForum to account for two or three different shows.
Keri Hilson kicked the concert off, which was followed by a set from the Gym Class Heroes. The diversity of the evening continued when superstar T-Pain took the stage.
While performing seemingly every song that is on the radio today, T-Pain showed fans that he is a true artist by taking to the drums and keyboard for a variety of songs.
As big of a star that he is in his own right, toward the end of his set T-Pain acknowledged that it was his job to get the crowd ready for that evening’s main event, but he put on such a show that you would have never known that he wasn’t the concert’s top billing.
After T-Pain left, the stage opened up and revealed an electric guitarist, full drum set and keyboardist, fans at FedExForum might have wondered whether there was another act before the headliner, but when Lil Wayne appeared on stage there was little question who the star of the evening would be.
Lil Wayne commanded the stage, with a sound so diverse with the rock elements that fans from any music genre could have enjoyed his performance. It didn’t take long for T-Pain to join Lil Wayne for their mega-hit “Got Money,” setting the tone for the rest of his set that left everyone at FedExForum wanting more.
